Ladies and gentleman,
Welcome to Round 1 of the Speed Force Racing Championship
What a start to the season, there was mass panic among the teams in the paddock. "How can this happen" bellowed Toto Wolff. Half the drivers had only shown up for the event. Apparently there has been talk from sources close to the affected teams the drivers that did not attend are unhappy with how the sport is evolving, both technically and with safety. No matter what though the drivers that were in attendance were treated with some glorious Aussie weather. Qualifying started under a cloudy Albert park sky with everyone still shocked by the lack of drivers, there was always a chance someone unexpected would grab the first pole of the season. As the drivers exited the pits hopeful that this year could be their year, there seemed that one driver, Ramavaj was here to put the other drivers on notice with a blistering lap of 1:22:362, he hit every apex, driving his Sauber like his car was on rails. He was a huge 8 tenths of a second quicker over LeeNel1988. Was this the moment where the rest of the grid were warned of things to come this season.
Lights out:
All the cars seemed to get little wheel spin resulting in smooth departures from their grid positions and with the drivers all barrelling towards turn one surely there was going to be contact made. Indeed there was, with a few cars not noticing the cars around them we lost a few drivers before the 1/4 distance of the race. With the hot sun beating down on the abrasive Albert park track, pit stops soon became a major force in deciding the drivers fate. Could they stretch their tyres one more lap or could they undercut someone in front by pitting a lap early? When the drivers finished their 1st stops the race seemed to become more alive, cars pushing harder than before. One driver by the name of nightwalker2014 was thinking a little too hard about a possible podium before he could notice himself closing the door, well slamming the door shut on LeeNel1988 causing Lee to retire with damage. The stewards led by the as yet unknown head steward handed a 10 second time penalty demoting nightwalker2014 to 4th place. Humbugg1337 was promoted to the podium because of one drivers actions. With the race a couple of laps from the finish Ramavaj was just continually pushing his car and was rewarded by a race win, the first race win of Speed Force Racing's history. This driver pushed everything out of the 2016 spec ferrari engine in his Sauber, a feat that will make Sauber very nervous. With drivers not showing up in some of the top teams there are whispers that 2 teams are looking at snatching Ramavaj away from Sauber. How could they not notice a driver who grabs pole and a race win in his debut season with a team where winning seemed light years away. With the dust settling on the Australian GP, one driver was summoned by the head steward, nightwalker2014 was pulled in for questioning regarding his driving. 20 minutes have passed no sign of nightwalker2014, then a massive bang here comes the driver, he is furious he has been handed a quali ban for the next race in China. Wow the head steward means business, drivers in the championship have now been put on notice, respect the rules. We sign off from this race knowing that we have some great talent in the field, maybe some of the best to suit up their racing overalls. Also knowing that respectful driving is a must, or beware the mysterious head steward.
